Helping Culina out with a Tight Spot
Culina is a specialist food and drink distribution company with a large warehousing operation based near Lutterworth in Leicestershire. Health & Safety regulations stipulate that fire alarm systems in warehouses must conform to strict regulations, so regular maintenance inspections and tests to ensure the alarms work were necessary.
A contractor assigned by Culina contacted Mainline to source a machine that would fit through the narrow aisles between the racking to access the alarms. The gaps were less than 2 metres wide but the machine also needed to reach heights of up to 19 meters.
Additional difficulties were encountered as the racking itself posed a huge obstacle with the potential to prevent the basket of a machine reaching the alarms.
Mainline Account Manager, Steve Matthews, carried out a site survey to assess the specific requirements and identify the best machine for the job. Steve recommended the Hollandlift HL220 E12, an electric scissor lift with a reach of 19.7 metres. He also proposed the NiftyLift HR-21 with an outreach of 12.1 metres to be used in areas where racking would be an obstruction. Between the two machines, the necessary maintenance could be carried out.
Thanks to Mainline machines and Steve’s expertise, the contractor completed the work and Culina can now continue to operate in a safe environment complying with Health & Safety regulations.
