We traded in our tools for dancing shoes!Posted March 22, 2016
Mainline got involved in Sport Relief this year and encouraged all staff to get up and get active!
With a sponsorship of £5 per person, and under the fabulous instruction of Alison from Havana Dance, Mainline employees took part in a 30 minute salsa dance class.
Everyone quickly got engaged in the class; laughing, shimmying, arms were swinging! Picking up some basic steps we took on the mambo, cucaracha, basic back, twists, and spins, there were smiles from ear to ear across the room!
Our 30 minute session proved that being active only makes you happier; it improved staff morale and broke down barriers, stimulated communication and teamwork. All who were reluctant to join in have fed back on how much they enjoyed it and would get involved again.
All in all, Mainline donated over £110 to Sport Relief and all staff involved truly loved the activity.
Our primary aim was to raise money for Sport Relief, but also to put on an event which encouraged staff to get involved in group activity and to get active.
We had the support of the East Midlands Today regional news team, who sent their cameras to our offices and recorded the event. Our salsa dancers were then broadcast on that evening’s BBC One news show!
The Burton Mail showed their support to local businesses and schools, and they included us in their article: www.burtonmail.co.uk/Pupils-employees-went-extra-mile-raise-funds/story-28950381-detail/story.html#1
Hopefully, by encouraging employees to get out of their comfort zones and to get active, we were able to do more than just raise money.
Bring on next year’s Sport Relief!
