The Glazing of Glass Wharf
The city of Bristol is gradually regenerating, especially in the old docklands area known as Temple Quay. Glass Wharf is a south facing waterside promenade with more than its fair share of fashionable bars, cafes and restaurants. It also provides aspirational office space for many businesses and a great environment for local people to enjoy.
A major improvement project is underway as one of the impressive glass sided buildings needs to be completely re-glazed. The work is being carried out by The Glazing Face, an expert glazing solutions provider catering specifically for commercial, industrial and public service buildings.
Mainline Access & Training have supplied specialist access equipment required to carry out the delicate work. One of Mainline’s 25 metre scissor lifts provides the perfect working platform for the workforce as they painstakingly replace each and every individual pane of glass on the massive building. There are very few machines in the UK that can provide this degree of access and The Glazing Face needed to get to work quickly. Mainline’s rapid response meant that the project was able to start promptly as required.
“After winning the works at Glass Wharf, Bristol, our client, Balfour Beatty, wanted us to have a prompt start. There seemed to be a shortage of suitable equipment in the UK at the time and we were badly let down by our existing MEWP supplier on more than one occasion. We were contacted by Lee Bodfield (National Sales Manager at Mainline Access & Training) who asked if he and Mainline could help. The service has been impeccable and a machine was delivered to site within a couple of weeks of our first discussions. After being on site for about a week, our client wanted a second team to start on another part of the building and again, Lee has provided a prompt service and a machine promised in a week. Excellent service so far and looking forward to a long relationship with Mainline”.

Mainline & Drayton Manor
“Drayton Manor has been a customer of Mainline for numerous years; we have always been very satisfied with the level of equipment and service Mainline have provided. Our relationship is of a personal nature now and a strong bond has been developed through a very good working relationship and understanding of our requirements.
Nothing is ever too much trouble no matter how little notice is given when we’re just not quite sure what we need. If needs be, a staff member will come to site and assess what we require to ensure we get the right piece of equipment.
Mainline go the extra mile to ensure full customer satisfaction, I can confidently call them and they will do their utmost to take the problem from me so I can get on with my other duties”.
Dinosaurs Unleashed in the Midlands!
Dinosaurs came be back from extinction and roamed the earth once again in the Dinosaur Valley attraction at Twycross Zoo.
Mainline sponsored the attraction supplying the necessary hire machinery to unload the fifteen life-sized dinosaurs, a task that required careful planning and delicate handling to ensure no animals were injured in the process!
The display gave visitors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with the dinosaurs including the popular Tyrannosaurus Rex and Stegosaurus; with the state-of-the-art animatronics bringing the dinosaurs back to life in a way like never before.
Carole Williams, our Director said “We were proud to have the opportunity to sponsor the event. It is important that the next generation learn about the impacts of extinction and the process of evolution. As a long term supplier to Twycross Zoo we are always happy to support them in any situation.”

Mainline sees the light and the potential of solar
Mainline were the first hire company to purchase Britain’s first solar lighting tower and it has been a resounding success with potential to appeal to a wide market.
Morris Site Machinery, whose team designed and built the SMC Solar-2, has sold a number of the lighting towers to Mainline enabling us to offer our customers the latest equipment and technology.
We have already hired the lights to Wavin UK where they provide the perfect solution to a problem Wavin were experiencing in their lorry park.
Unlike hybrid competitor models the Solar- 2 offers the ultimate in green efficiency and associated cost savings. It operates eight times longer than a hybrid model and generates a carbon saving up to 3,000kg per year, and can save users up to £7,400 per year on maintenance and fuel costs. The lighting tower has currently been operating at the Wavin depot for over 350 hours with no recharge required.
The SMC Solar-2 was an ideal solution as it is solar and battery operated and has no engine so it provides 100% fuel saving, emits zero CO2 , zero noise and requires minimal service.
Our Managing Director, Keith Williams, said: “We like to take a lead in our business. We saw the appeal of innovative and eco-friendly lighting which offered economic solutions for our customers. The solar lighting towers are low maintenance and cost-effective and have proved a real success. We are very happy with our purchase.”
Keith added: “We have a wide ranging customer base and we believe more will see the benefits of using solar lighting towers to reduce their carbon footprint and their energy bills. Most responsible businesses want to improve their green credentials so there is a growing demand for more sustainable equipment.”
Robin Parkin, UK Sales Manager at Morris Site Machinery said: “We are delighted with the positive feedback to our SMC Solar-2 lighting tower. It reinforces the faith we have in this equipment and its potential to transform the way the industry operates”.
“Solar-2 delivers on many levels because it is sustainable, reliable, robust and economic. The technology means that even in a UK climate, not noted for its sunshine, it can use solar energy efficiently and effectively.”
Its high quality LED lamps provide 100,000 hours of life. The four high lumens LED lamps give clean crisp light with 360 degree coverage.
With both battery and mains supply provision, it offers flexible options for all site applications. The machine itself has a ten year life and is completely recyclable.
